Install Rank Hunter.

Use the Windows installer or run Rank Hunter directly on Ubuntu/Linux. Both paths lead to the same local research environment and the same scientific runtime.

Windows or Linux.

Windows gets a normal installer. Ubuntu/Linux keeps the direct source install. Rank Hunter's scientific stack remains Linux-based on both paths.

Windows 10 / 11 Install with Setup.exe

Download Rank Hunter like a normal Windows application. Setup prepares WSL2, Ubuntu, SageMath, Rank Hunter, and the Start Menu launcher for you.

  • Detects or installs WSL2 + Ubuntu.
  • Installs the SageMath scientific environment inside Ubuntu.
  • Installs Rank Hunter and creates Start Menu shortcuts.
  • Launches Rank Hunter in WSL and opens it in your Windows browser.
A brand-new WSL installation may require one Windows restart and Ubuntu's one-time Linux username/password setup.
Ubuntu / Linux Install from source View source on GitHub

Clone the public Rank Hunter repository, run the installer, and launch the UI. This is the direct path for an Ubuntu research workstation.

git clone https://github.com/crhillresearch/rank-hunter.git rank-hunter
cd rank-hunter
bash install.sh

bash scripts/run-ui.sh
The Linux installer expects a Sage-capable scientific Python and checks the native build prerequisites it needs before compiling point-search tools.
Same scientific runtime

The Windows installer does not replace SageMath, PARI/eclib, or Rank Hunter's scientific subprocesses with separate Windows implementations. It manages an Ubuntu environment under WSL2 so Windows and Linux users run the same research stack.

Windows installer

Windows feels native. The math stays Linux.

Setup.exe handles the Windows-facing work. The scientific runtime stays in the environment Rank Hunter is built and tested for.

01

Run Setup.exe

Install the launcher and let Rank Hunter check the Windows WSL2 prerequisites.

02

Provision the research stack

Ubuntu, Miniforge, SageMath, native tools, plugins, and Rank Hunter are prepared inside WSL.

03

Launch from Start

Rank Hunter starts inside WSL, waits for the local UI, then opens in your normal Windows browser.

Ubuntu / Linux

Install directly in three steps.

The source installer stays inside the checkout and is safe to rerun when refreshing or repairing the local environment.

01

Clone Rank Hunter

git clone https://github.com/crhillresearch/rank-hunter.git rank-hunter
cd rank-hunter
02

Run the installer

bash install.sh

Initializes native vendor submodules, installs UI/scientific runtime pieces, creates or migrates the local database, builds and smoke-tests CPU ratpoints, attempts the GPU build when CUDA is available, and installs the public plugin checkout.

03

Start Rank Hunter

bash scripts/run-ui.sh

Rank Hunter opens or creates its local rank42.db. Research databases and backups are local scientific state and are not part of the source release.

Already manage the native tools?

Use Lite mode.

If you already have working CPU/GPU ratpoints executables and want Rank Hunter to preserve those configured paths, Lite mode skips native vendor compilation.

Lite install
bash install.sh --lite

What gets installed

A local research workstation.

Local scientific state

SQLite stores curves, exact points, rank evidence, jobs, lattices, quartic searches, provenance, and reproducibility metadata.

Public plugins

The public plugin collection keeps Family mathematics and Workspace tools separate from Rank Hunter core.

CPU / GPU point search

CPU ratpoints is the normal path; GPU acceleration is attempted only when a compatible CUDA environment is available.

One evidence standard

Windows or Linux changes how Rank Hunter starts, not what it is allowed to claim mathematically.

Ready?

Install Rank Hunter and start hunting.
